Traditional yet Accessible

I like to practice whatever feels right on any particular day, tuning into my body and honoring what it needs. That's the approach I bring to teaching too - honoring traditional yogic wisdom while making it completely accessible to everyone and ensuring the energy of the day and the room is taken in to account.

I'm trained to work with various physical conditions and have a thorough understanding of anatomy. This means I can offer modifications, alternatives, and adaptations so that everyone can find their version of each pose. Because yoga isn't about the perfect posture- its about finding the yoga that works best for you.

Why Practice Yoga?

I could give you all the standard reasons - flexibility, strength, stress relief. And yes, yoga absolutely provides all of that. But most importantly I want you to know:

Yoga has this incredible ability to meet you exactly where you are. Stressed? It helps you find peace. Disconnected from your body? It brings you home again and again and again. Feeling stuck? It creates space for movement, both physical and emotional.

My two favorite reasons to try yoga:

  • You never know until you try

  • It's always, always worth it

In today's world, taking care of both our bodies and minds isn't just nice - it's essential. Yoga offers a space where focused breathwork and mindful movement combine to benefit your entire being.

What Makes Hatha Yoga Special:

  • Physical postures that build strength, flexibility, and body awareness

  • Breathwork techniques that calm the nervous system

  • Accessible practice suitable for all bodies and fitness levels

  • Emphasis on proper alignment and understanding your anatomy

  • Mind-body connection through mindful, intentional movement

In our fast-paced world, Hatha yoga offers a sanctuary where you can slow down, tune into your body, and find some space and peace in what is now a very busy and over stimulating world.

Hatha Yoga

The Foundation of My Teaching

My classes are rooted in Hatha Raja Yoga - the style I was trained in during my 200-hour certification. Hatha yoga is all about working with the body to purify and still the mind, focusing on perfecting asanas (postures) and using pranayama (breathwork) as tools for inner peace.

The Influence of Ashtanga Yoga

While my classes are Hatha-based, they're deeply influenced by my personal Ashtanga practice. Ashtanga involves practicing a set sequence of postures with traditional elements that create a moving meditation:

  • Opening and closing mantras

  • Ujjayi breath - 'warming breath' helping you find stillness and focus in postures

  • Drishti - focused gaze points that help focus the mind

  • Mysore style practice - practicing at your own pace with guidance from an experienced teacher

This traditional foundation definitely seeps in to all my classes, adding a nice mix of physical challenge and focus on stilling the mind.

Yoga

Yoga is about bringing us back to our true selves, and to inner peace through the renunciation of attachments and desire's. Not just through focusing on yoga postures and breath work but also how we conduct and hold ourselves within the world, our beliefs, thoughts and actions and their impact on ourselves and the world.
